The ViewBelfast Review
Stylish and elegant is a term rarely used when discussing Belfast clubs, but La Lea's suave interior helps to make for a memorable night out.The VenueHidden away among the twists and turns of Belfast's city centre is La Lea. Priding itself on its debonair sense of style, this club has a sleek, eloquent and luxurious feel to it.
Borrowing design inspiration from the Far East, both directly and indirectly, the bar has a balanced and serene layout and the calming presence of a Buddha. The grand architecture of the building, with a towering ceiling, helps to create a spacious feel to this two floor club.
The main seating area on the groundfloor is alive with fresh whites, creams and light browns that are intimately lit with ambient lighting. Seating is sufficient and comfortable, with plush pillows and soft leather stools.
The dancefloor is open-plan and has plenty of room for people to shake their hips in. Darker in tone, the dancefloor nicely offsets the bright seating area, yet large mirrors and numerous glitter balls that are suspend above help to add a bit of sparkle to proceedings.
The bar is well staffed and adequately size, and is nicely lit with the help of glowing LED strips from behind huge gilt-framed mirrors. The first floor is more exclusive and acts as a VIP area. Table lamps, flocked chandeliers and further LED lighting at the back bar helps to make the VIP lounge a more distinguished affair.
The deep red colour scheme creates a sultry environment for people to relax in if they have over exerted themselves on the downstairs dancefloor.
The PeopleThis place aims to be one of the most prestigious clubs in Belfast and thus has a relatively strict door policy to reflect this. Attracting crowds of young party goers, it's mostly populated by individuals in their mid twenties to mid thirties.
Out for a good time, La Lea's clientele are not overtly pretentious and happy to let go of their inhibitions on the dancefloor. This makes for an electric atmosphere. Not surprisingly the two most popular nights of the week are Friday and Saturday.
On Friday night it hosts Access All Areas with free admission across Bar Bacca, La Lea and Irene and Nans, which are owned by the same group. Revellers in La Lea are treated to pop and house while on Saturday it's My House, with chart and house with free admission before 10pm and £6 after. Both nights are busy.
The DrinkThere's the usual selection of beer, wine and cocktails. The club runs a number of good promotions such as bottles of Corona for £2 and all house wine costing half price all night on a Friday evening.
There's also a unique offer on for loyal customers. Buy their Magnet Card for £2 and you're able to take advantage of number of deals, such as pints of Tennents for £1.99, bottles of Heineken for £1.89, a bottle of house wine for £6.49, and bottles of VK Flavours at £1.79. The Magnet Card can be used in the neighbouring locations of Irene and Nans and Bar Bacca.
The Last WordThis club is pleasing on the eye and also on the ear, with Friday and Saturday offering up distinctive musical atmospheres for everyone to enjoy. But no matter what night you decide to visit you will undoubtedly enjoy yourself.
