The ViewBelfast Review
A modern wine bar which serves local business people in the fashionable Cathedral Quarter part of town.
The Venue
On the left hand side of Commercial Street, the Printer’s Cafe refers to a time when this area was a hub of activity for the Northern Irish press. There are a few tables and chairs on the pavement outside and inside the entrance is tiled with big square panels and there’s dark wood around the small bar, which is on the left.
Most of the rest of the long, narrow room is taken up by stone topped tables with candles on and pine and metal chairs. But, for some reason the place feels a little empty. The walls are painted black wooden panels and the modern art paintings by local artists are for sale. The low cream ceiling features spotlights on wire runners and tall contemporary radiators run up the walls.
The People
This is a favourite spot for a business lunch or for local professionals to gather for a drink and bite to eat after work. This is more of an eating venue, or a quiet place for a drink, but it's not cheap so you won't find many students or the under 25 crowd in here.
The Food and Drink
A club sandwich will set you back £7.45, a leek and blue cheese tart is £7.45 and an Italian seafood stew is £8.95, so it’s not for those on a tight budget.
The list comprises of nine whites and nine reds ranging between £9.95 to £18 a bottle, including a La Tengo Malbec from Argentina which is £10.95 a bottle or £3.75 for a small glass - otherwise there’s a Spanish Valdemar Rioja Reserva for £17 - although you can’t help thinking that for a wine bar the selection could be bigger and better. There’s Carlsberg on draught and in bottles you’ve got Tiger, Stella, Sol and Belfast Ale.
The Last Word
A pedestrian wine bar which doesn’t quite live up to the tag, Printer’s caters for the business crowd in this cool part of town.
