First time in this restaurant with friends. What a lovely place, great food and atmosphere and really friendly staff. Stayed longer than we should have. Fillet steak was to die for so tasty and tender and one of the party had seabass which he claims was one of the best he's had.
Food took a while coming but it was very busy and once we got it realized it was cooked from scratch really delicious.
Bit of craic! with the staff and they couldn't do enough for us.
Will be back wish it was closer to Belfast although 7 or so miles outside Belfast really is not far when theres food this good will get a driver next time!
Eight South. What can I say other than best restaurant I have been to in a while! I was at Eight South with a group of work colleagues and we most certainly will return! Greeted by very pleasant staff who obviously enjoy their job, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and we were seated by the big fire which made it more cosy. Excellent selection of meals to choose from it took us a while to decide! We had the Peppered Chicken, Crispy Shredded Chicken, Suffolk Smokie, Pasta Carbonara, Steak and Vegetarian Stir Fry and not one fault could be reported! Quick service and excellent food are a great combination and we all left with smiles on our faces. Seems to be renovations taking place so we cant wait to return and see what changes will be made. I would certainly recommend Eight South to everyone!
What a great night. Fantastic food. Could'nt decide what to have as so much on the menu to choose from. Give it a go you will be really surprised. Great surroundings and staff really attentive.
Went here on a friends advise. Amazing Restaurant cant believe I have not heard more of this establishment. Menu is vast a bit of everything to suit everyone glad to see specials which sounded delicious so opted for one of them.
Being vegetarian had goats cheese and warmed beetroot salad with walnuts & balsamic dressing, absolutely to die for, mum had peppered chicken and dad the usual steak, hes still talking about it. Definately a place to go to please everyone. They are renovating at the moment with a new menu out very soon cant wait to try it again and definately will.
Staff are friendly and are very happy to work there, a good sign I think.
The staff member with red hair does not seem to have any manners. I am a regular at the 2GO takeaway and I have had enough. I will not be back. Consistently rude and extremely unwelcoming. Manners cost nothing.
I used to be a regular customer at the restaurant, but unfortunately the standard of food has got worse as time has went on. Having read other reviews I would tend to agree with other reviews, the portions are getting smaller and certainly not of the same standard as when the restaurant opened.
Another complaint would be, that the menu has basically remained the same since its inception. No 'specials' which does become quite tedious after a while, having to choose the same things time and time again from the menu.
It has also got very expensive for alcohol, in fact having had a few pints in a Belfast City bar recently, I was shocked to find that it was actually cheaper for a pint in Belfast, than it was in Carryduff. I believe that the price of drink has been rising steadily due to the fact that there never seems to be anyone in the bar, and those that do choose to drink in it, have to pay for the people that don't!!
I have started using the four winds now, as it's only down the road and it's worth travelling a bit further for better quality.
My husband, son and daughter visited here last year for my sons graduation and were blown away by the efficient, pleasant staff, fabulous food AND to cap it all I might have said that my son had graduated and we were so very proud of him.We were told when he was 3 years that he would probably need residential care !! He is a charming ,intelligent, sensitive young man who was so impressed as were we when the waitress brought him a cake with Congratulations Matthew on it .That is over and beyond service thank you all so very much .We are heading back for his birthday and have told all our friends about thir super place.
I visited Eight South Diner on Friday night with 21 others and everyone in our party was really impressed. The staff were all very friendly and the food excellent. The children in our party really enjoyed the games area too. For such a large group all of our food arrived together and was piping hot. We all agreed that we would be back. Thank you to Mr Saggers for making us so welcome.
My other half and I visited this restaurant with some trepidation after reading some of the reviews but came away very pleasantly surprised. The staff were very pleasant, the atmosphere cordial and we were seated, with a smile, within seconds of entering. The staff were attentive without being overly so and we were given ample time to peruse the menu. We both went for the 1/2 rack of ribs @ £8.95. I'm glad we only went for the 1/2 rack! I've never had ribs with so much meat on them. They were served with a lovely maple sauce, side salad and chips...beautiful! So much was on the plate we both couldn't finish our meal. Real value for money!
I find it hard to fault the service, the surroundings or the food. First impressions count and we will certainly return.
This place is awful! We chose to eat in the diner last night (a Thursday) and were greeted by a very angry looking teenager who told us to wait at the door and she would see if the chef was still there (it was 8.10pm). A pleasant young guy came over and asked us to follow him, at this my friend explained that the angry girl had gone to check if the chef was still here, he rolled is eyes and smiled telling us of course the chef was still here.
With the 20 seconds that we had to look at the menu, it appeared nice but then the angry girl came stomping over (i thought she was going to throw us out!) and asked if we wanted drinks. We both flipped over the menu to find a drinks list but were told 'we dont have a drink menu'. I asked what alcoholic drinks were served and this really seemed to bother her! when i aked about wine, i was told 'we do red wine and white wine in those wee bottles'. At this point we should have just left but out of badness, we took ages looking at the menu, ordered starters, more wine and a main!! Food wasnt go and not worth the money but it was pleasant compared to the waitress. We did leave a tip because the waiter was pleasent but i wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.
Not really sure whats going on with the reviews of this place, there seems to be some insiders posting things, which is a pity as you dont know whats true and whats vindictive but either way, both the food and service in this place is terrible.
Could someone with a bit of money and business sense open a good (or even middle of the road!!) restaurant in Carryduff, it would make a killing if 8 South was its only competition!
I cannot believe how someone could say anything bad about this venue. I was taken to the Diner & Pizzeria by friends and I can only say we had a fantastic day. The kids lost themselves in the Playzone which is totally FREE whilst I had probably the best steak I have had in quite a while and my husband was delighted he could help himself to a delicious salad bar. The staff could not have been friendlier we were able to keep check on the kids by watching the in house monitors. I only wish it was near where I live I would be very glad of somewhere like this to go where I could enjoy a meal knowing the kids are well amused, they even were able to have their meal in the Playzone. I noticed the venue has been awarded 5 stars by Castlereagh Council, an award which is not exactly easy to achieve and which they certainly deserve.
The Diner was spotlessly clean as were all the facilities. The Playzone is exactly what it is described a zone for kids to play without any fuss. I cant wait to get back. Well done on your effort which is hard to find these days.
Some of the worst food I have ever paid for. I was glad to leave.
I am giving one star, rather than none, as the staff were very pleasant.
The children's facilities were filthy, and it was no surprise that on a Saturday lunchtime during the school holidays - the place was empty.
Come back Pizza Hut..... :-(
Have to say, I'm very surprised at the negative reviews, we have four children ranging from 15yrs to 5yrs and they all thoroughly enjoy heading to 8south. The games room is just a bonus for the kids to have some freedom to enjoy all the excellent free facilities whilst mum and dad get to finish their meal and with piece of mind under our noses is the monitors for us to keep an eye on them. Kids love the pizza's and chicken bites, whilst the gammon is a big hit with mum and dad.
This place is all glitz and no substance. Overpriced and a very poor response to any complaints. My advice is to avoid this establishment. Mores the pity in that the floor staff are pleasant and efficient.
As a family we dine here frequently - the highlight is definitely the play area and the helpful staff. You are always met with a smile and all staff go out of their way when it comes to the kids. Here here I say you don't feel uncomfortable - A great place for a family - great venue for adults to chat and kids enjoy themselves.
I'm sorry to hear bad reports about this diner as i have taken my family here at least 3 times and every time the food has been top class. the staff are very friendly and helpful my kids have clean plates and enjoy the play area. I would recommend
8 south diner to families enjoy **** the Kelly's
Nice grub from the 2go part but please do something about chips they are tasteless and I would rather go to knife and fork for this reason. That is all...Love, Ten Tonne Tessy xo
. We come over most weekends to Eight South Diner as we love the food and the play area that affords some alone time. And my daughter just loves the free amusements. We are able to keep a watch on her through their well-placed monitors and the staff is always helpful to go collect our child for the meal. I usually have the steaks. Always cooked a turn and the staff always cheerfully bring it. Always check how the meal is going. Cant say enough good things. We are definiately loyal customers. Wish them many years of continued success.!
Visited Fri 12 Feb.
Pleasantly surprised after the negative reviews.
Staff really friendly and food quite good and not overpriced. It's not Michelin star food but then again it's a diner so I didn't expect that. The kids had pizza and cleared their plates. I had a burger which was nice and my wife had a chicken curry and loved it.
The highlight is the games room for the kids and while they are in there you can watch the action in the room from the tv monitors in the restaurant. Kids loved it, video games, drawing, movie, toddler area. All good.
Have been in the new family diner twice now, first time was dreadfully average and very overpriced. Went back a second time on Sunday lunchtime to give them a second chance. Sunday Roast tasted like it had been cooked the week before, frozen and then heated up again - it was tough and tasteless. Everyone in my party who had it said the same. I then had Lemon Meringue, which had to be the most disgusting Lemon Meringue I've ever had in my life, I couldn't eat it. Different friends and family who have been all say the same, food is awful. A real pity, as the facilities have real potential, kids loved the play area. If they got the food sorted out they could make something of it. Staff were fine, but overall, food awful and very overpriced, doubt if I'll be back.
I am a regular costumer of 8south as r my family! I have 2 say that everytime we go in be it 8south or the diner it has always been lovely and the staff are gr8,very helpfully and kind. Yes some people my have different views on this but I will continue going there because in my opinion its the best restaurant carryduff has.
I have eaten here twice now and both times were terrible. The first time I went, my food came out cold, when I told the waitress it seemed like it was my fault. I then had to Wait 20 Munuits before my meal came back and it really was my meal. It came back dried up With fresh gravy over it. They had obviously heated it in the microwave. I had my meal while the rest of my family was Finished, normally we would stay for dessert and Coffee but not this time.
On my Second Visit I went With some FreindS who had already booked befor I could tell them of the bad food and service I recieved before. I give it A chance and our starters were lovely, then the Main Course came out eventually after A Long Wait but ThingS looked good untill my Freind found A creature of some sort in her meal. This also seemed like it was our fault, that put us all off the rest of our meals and we didnt Finnish and asked for the bill. The bill came over in full not even the creature meal was taken off until we Refused to pay for it. Since then we have heard A number of Complaint About ThingS being in meals. Even Talking About the place makes me feel sick. The sunday world pub spy give Eight South no Rating at all as it was so bad for them also. I Dont normally take the time to Complain but someThing needs to be Done. The new family DinneR is Just that Bit closer to the Rat invested stream, I wouldnt take my children There to Eat. This is Just our Opinion, try it if you dare but be sure to check Your food before you put it in Your Mouth.
The poor spelling and appalling grammar might go some way to explaining why a certain poster on here is an ex employee at Eight South, well done to the management for weeding out someone who obviously isn't up to par.
The new family diner has proven to be a big hit with my brood, resulting in 3 visits there in the last month, all of which have been excellent. My kids were well looked after and entertained, the service was fine and the food was perfect. People with us even commented on how much they enjoyed the music. All things considered, I can't recommend Eight South highly enough!
I can ensure you that the intentions of Trevor are for you to enjoy a meal (morning, afternoon or evening).
Trevor may not greet every customer that enters eight south but he trains his staff to be friendly and warming to his customers. The most pleasant and attentive staff, which people congratulate, are found in Eight South.
The rude inconsiderate former (fired) staff are found giving bad reviews on websites. Does anyone wonder why Stevey D reviews emits such a lot of personal negativity.Eight South now has a new family diner, for those who may be interested.
It's becoming popular quickly, with services for birthdays, parties, meetings, weddings etc (seats over 100).
Why not pay another visit to the always improving Eight South, before agreeing the verdict given by someone with a grudge?
I HAVE DINED IN EIGHT SOUTH MANY TIMES,THE STAFF AND AMBIENCE WERE 100 % ;
FOOD WAS GOOD TOO ;CERTAINLY BEATS RICKS OR IVANHOE. . .HAVE DINED IN THE DINER BELOW,GRUB WAS GOOD BUT HAD TOO MUCH OF A CAFE FEEL ABOUT IT,IT WAS A BIT EXPENSIVE FOR BEER WITH THE BOTTLES OF BUD COSTING OVER £3 ...
FAIR PLAY TO TREVOR FOR INVESTING IN A NEW VENTURE IN CARRYDUFF ,I HAVE ALWAYS FOUND HIM TO BE THE PERFECT GENTLEMAN. . . .
PS IM NOT AN EMPLOYEE OR ONE OF HIS MATES ,OR AM I A STRANGER TO A FISH SUPPER HAVING DINED IN MOST OF BELFASTS BEST RESTAURANTS. . . . .YOUSR THE SLIM BOY.
IM NO WHERE NEAR FINISHED, IM JUST STARTING.
I'm surprised by most of the negative reviews.
I have always enjoyed being at Eight South either on the cosy pub, lunch menu, evening dinner for two, evening dinner for a few friends and even for a large group.
Everyone very friendly although prices are a bit top end - food tasty and portions generous.
Obviously can't speak for those who work there but as Joe Public I love this wee place!
This restaurant has a nerve charging fine dining prices whilst serving up average pub grub.
If the proprietor wishes to serve Wetherspoons style food at least have the decency to charge Wetherspoons prices! A restaurant which is a fifth full at 7.30 on a Friday says it all.
Staff however were great and its a shame they have to serve food that doesn't warrant large tips! Move on guys!!
Pleasant and attentive waiting staff, however very disappointing, mediocre food.
Bland lasagne and undercooked chips. Thankfully we were using a gift voucher.
I would have complained had I been paying for it myself!
ROTTEN, YOU CANT CHANGE ANYTHING YOU DONT LIKE ON THE MENU, SUCH AS CHIPS INSTEAD OF NOODLES OR POTATOES, ITS A LOT OF HASTLE IF YOU DONT WANT WHAT YOUR TOLD ON THE MENU.
I WORKED THERE AND SAW WHAT GOES ON AND I DEF WOULDNT EAT THERE, NO THANKS, NOT EVEN FOR FREE.
TREVOR DOESNT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS JUST THEIR MONEY AND THATS FACT.
IT IS OVER PRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET AND THE PRICE HE BUYS THE STOCK IN FOR, A LOT OF FALSE ADVERTISING ALSO.
BE WYSE, DONT GO THERE.
Always a warm welcome and food excellent. A family favourite!
